Steve Carlis is a highly successful media and entertainment
executive. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in the creation
of over 40 films, being the executive producer of 13 films and TV series…
including the highly-acclaimed 1996 movie Slingshot
(which won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, was nominated for Best
Actor, and was praised by The Washington
Post as “A masterpiece of Southern Storytelling”), and the 2001 drama You Can Count On Me (Nominated for 2
Academy Awards, the chief film critic from New York called this film “The best
American Movie Of the Year”).
In addition, Steve Carlis has also produced award-winning commercials for major household
brands (such as Bud Light), and provided creative and marketing solutions to
Fortune 1,000 mega-companies including Barclays, ABC and Disney. In 1999, Steve Carlis was awarded the prestigious Ernst
& Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and was inducted to the elite Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame
after creating and implementing the business plan responsible for turning a
small, independent film company (called Shooting
Gallery) into a multimedia content and service provider.
One of Steve Carlis’ most successful projects as
executive producer is the documentary 7
Days In September, a heartening film showing how New Yorkers put aside
their differences and worked together swiftly and selflessly to help their
fellow citizens in the face of disaster, right after the 9/11 terrorist attacks
on the World Trade Center. The documentary features footage from 28 different
filmmakers (ranging from total amateurs to professionals), and tells the story
of 9/11 through the experiences of a diverse group of shell-shocked
eyewitnesses – including the heart-rending stories of a firefighter’s wife, an
American-Muslim woman, and an 11-year-old boy.
There is no doubt that Steve Carlis will continue to
be one of the top executive producers in the film industry because of his passion
and expertise in the film industry.
